When Sam Jones retired after the 1969 season the teams that he had so ably dominated over the course of his 12-year career came out to honor their respected foe. These two unique pieces are examples of the high esteem to which Jones’ fellow NBA players held him. The first is a silver plated metal serving platter presented to the Celtics star by the Atlanta Hawks. Engraved at its center is “SAM JONES MERITORIOUS SERVICE TO BASKETBALL ATLANTA HAWKS 2-14-69.” The platter measures 30" x 20" and shows medium wear from age. The second piece was presented to Jones by his biggest rival the 76ers. The round tray is silver plated and features the signatures and logo of the 1969 76ers team with a personalized engraving to Jones. The 14½" x 14½" tray shows good use with toning and scuffs from age and use. Two personal pieces that demonstrate the respect earned by Sam Jones after 12 years in the NBA.
