A 6-time All-Star 2-time Gold Glover and 3-time World Champion with the Dodgers John Roseboro played 14 seasons in the big leagues and is perhaps best remembered for taking two bat blows to the head from Giants pitcher Juan Marichal in 1965 adding more fuel to the fire of the Dodger-Giants bitter rivalry.

The offered glove was used by the longtime Dodger catcher in the early to mid-1960’s. The Wilson A2404 professional model glove shows extensive usage wear but remains structurally sound throughout.  Roseboro’s number “8” appears on both the thumb and pinky area in faded black ink and his faint inscription “To Danny Best Wishes John Roseboro”  on the back finger area. The glove’s exceptional provenance comes in the form of a copy of a photo of Roseboro wearing what appears to be this very glove squatting next to a young boy in a catching pose. Accompanying documentation identifies the boy as Danny Mains the recipient of the glove. Additionally a copy of a letter from Roseboro written to Donnie in 1967 (lamenting his trade to the Twins) further corroborates their relationship.

Given the quality of both the glove itself and its provenance we’re incline to say you’d be hard pressed to find a better example from the great Dodgers backstop.
