In his later years, Jesse Owens dedicated himself to various sports and health initiatives designed for young people. In 1978, Owens was part of the state of Delaware’s “Governor’s Health Week,” and to show his appreciation, governor Pierre S. Du Pont presented the great Olympian with this “Order of the First State” certificate. Measuring 8½" x 11", the certificate has Owens’ name in Old English calligraphy and has been signed by governor Pierre S, du Pont in black pen. The certificate shows light toning from age and slight surface abrasions from storage, most noticeably in the area of Owens’ name.
Includes LOA signed by each of Jesse Owens' three daughters.
