Chicago Cubs superstar Sammy Sosa was a powerful right fielder who launched a total of 609 home runs during the course of his 18-year career. One of those home runs is connected to the lot offered here. On July 8 2003 the Cubs hosted the Florida Marlins at Wrigley Field. Though the Cubs lost 4-3 Sosa hit his 513th home run and passed two Hall of Famers in the prestigious 500 Home Run Club with that one swing: Ernie Banks and Eddie Mathews.
The pair of Easton batting gloves Sosa wore that day are featured here. The size XXL blue gray and white leather/nylon gloves show substantial game use and wear and include Sosa’s uniform number “21” embroidered in white on the blue Velcro wristband. He has signed in blue fine-point marker the palm areas of both gloves and added the following inscription: “GU 03 HR 513.” The signature and a portion of the inscription on the right glove are smeared.
