The seven game series between the Yankees and Phillies was the first Post Season Classic played in November and just like 1950 the last time the two teams met in the World Series resulted in a Yankees win. The Yankees won ran their World Championship total to an unprecedented 27 and Andy Pettitte set a new record with 18 career post-season victories. This 2009 World Championship pendant was given to the wife of Yankees team doctor Andrew Boyer--also late owner George Steinnbrenner's personal physician--and is of the same design as the top of the rings awarded to the team’s players and executives.
The 14K gold pendant has the classic Yankees “NY” in diamonds mounted on a baseball diamond of diamonds which is in turn set on a blue stone surrounded by smaller diamonds. The reverse has “BOYER” and “WORLD CHAMPIONS” surrounding a depiction of the new Yankee Stadium. “Balfour 14K” is stamped into the bottom edge. The pendant comes in its original box which is stamped “WORLD CHAMPIONS 2009” with the Yankees NY logo in gold. While the box shows heavy use the pendant displays minimal wear and is a faithful companion piece to the 2009 World Series ring.
