Presented here is Mario Lemieux’s game-worn 2001 NHL All-Star Captain’s jersey from the February 4 2001 contest held at the Pepsi Center in Denver. Five weeks after coming out of retirement for his beloved Pittsburgh Penguins after a three-season hiatus Super Mario became just the third Hall of Fame inductee to play in the All-Star Game joining Gordie Howe (1980 Detroit) and Guy Lafleur (1991 Chicago). Named as a reserve for Team North America Lemieux wore the Captain’s jersey proudly opposite Team World’s starting center Peter Forsberg. “Le Magnifique” made his presence felt during the wild 14-12 victory for North America tallying a goal in the second period and assisting on Simon Gagne’s goal in the third. During the 2000-01 regular season at the age of 35 Lemieux was as efficient as ever looking like he had barely missed a beat finishing with 76 points in just 43 games. The Pens made it all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals where they would fall to the Devils.
The navy North America jersey with red white and gray stripes shows excellent game use with sweat stains round the neck and collar. Mario’s iconic No. 66 appears front and back in red-white-silver tackle twill with his name in white on a navy nameplate across the upper back. Lemieux's red-white-silver Captain's "C" patch is sewn on the left chest opposite the Colorado Avalanche All-Star Game patch on the right side. The Penguins crest is sewn on the right shoulder with a Canadian flag patch on the left shoulder. NHL logo patch appears on front and CCM manufacturer’s patch is on the back. Authentication number “AAA294” is sewn on the inner fight strap. Size 58 and "Made in Canada" tags are inside the collar. CCM Air-Knit laundry tag is inside the shirttail. A wonderful piece of hockey history from one of the best to ever skate.
