By the 2001-02 NBA Season Shaquille O’Neal was in his 6th season with the Los Angeles Lakers and 10th overall in the NBA. Despite playing much of that year with a sore surgically-repaired big toe Shaq averaged 27.2 points per game and led the league in field goal percentage for the 5th straight time. The Lakers went on to sweep the New Jersey Nets in the Finals and complete a rare Three-Peat to stake their claim as one of the greatest teams ever. Shaq not coincidentally won his third consecutive Finals MVP. This championship proved to be the last O’Neal would win in LA. He would go on to win one more with the Heat in the 2005-06 season but his Lakers years represented the zenith of his basketball career which culminated in a 2016 first-ballot election to the Hall of Fame.
Presented here is Shaq’s gold home gamer from that special 2001-02 Three-Peat campaign. On the front left tail is the Nike manufacturer's tag with size 60 and a "LENGTH +4 MADE IN USA" flag tag. Inside the left seam are two additional tags which read "2001-02" and washing instructions. On the top left chest is the official "NBA" embroidered logo patch with an overlapping an NBA Finals patch. On the top right chest is the post "9/11 USA Unity Flag" patch. Across the front is "LAKERS" and on the back is “O’NEAL” both done in purple on white tackle twill. The Diesel’s No. "34” in white on purple tackle twill appears front and back. Shaq has signed the back ‘4’ in 8-9/10 black marker. This jersey was most likely worn during the regular season with the Finals patch added during the post-season and the jersey kept as a back-up—a common practice by some equipment staffs.
