Ralph Branca passed away on Nov. 23 2016. Up until his death at age 90 the longtime pitcher for the Brooklyn Dodgers was the oldest living member of the ‘47 team that integrated Major League Baseball by welcoming in Jackie Robinson. Branca won a total of 88 regular season games for the Dodgers between 1944 and 1956. This lot features a 1978 L.A. Dodgers National League Champions 14K white gold ring that was issued to Branca for his outstanding service to the organization.
The size 11.5 ring is beautifully crafted with a large blue stone on top that has "Dodgers" inset in scripted logo font and is accented by (1) small diamond that mirrors a baseball. It is lettered around the beveled edge with "1978 National League Champions" in raised lettering. On one shank is featured the interlocking "LA" team logo with their season attendance figure noted above “3347845” (the Dodgers were the first team to surpass the 3 million figure in paid attendance). The other shank shows crossed bats and ball design which is engraved "Ralph T. Branca." It is marked "Balfour 14K" on the interior band with light wear. The ring weighs 25 grams and comes packaged inside its original Balfour presentation box.
