For the past 52 years the NFL has celebrated its championship game every season as the Super Bowl. The AFC and NFC Champions square off in the ultimate gridiron contest every year to determine the best team in the league. It all started in 1967 when the very first Super Bowl was played and pitted the AFL Champion Kansas City Chiefs against NFL Champion Green Bay Packers. Led by quarterback Bart Starr the Packers defeated the Chiefs 35-10. The battle took place at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
This lot features five separate color-coded passes (four media one event staff) from the inaugural Super Bowl that were awarded to members of the media to cover the game. Two of the press passes measure three inches wide by six inches wide. One is marked “WORKING PRESS” (#000106 green) and the other is marked “AUXILIARY PRESS” (#000178 orange). The third pass is marked “COLISEUM STAFF” (#000166 gray) and measures three inches wide by 4.5” high. The remaining two press passes are both perforated and measure three inches wide by four inches high. One is marked “TELEVISION” (#000037 lavender) and the other is marked “WORKING PRESS” (#000100 red).
The passes remain in outstanding shape. The TV pass has some excess paper on the back from likely being taped to something. The staff pass has some leftover adhesive or residue on the top and bottom. The other three appear NM or better. What a unique grouping for a hardcore Super Bowl I collector.
