Baseball Hall of Famer the late Ted Williams played his entire MLB career with the Boston Red Sox and captured seven American League batting titles during his illustrious 18-year tenure in the big leagues. This lot features a pair of c.1950's Boston Red Sox wool stirrups attributed to the 'Splendid Splinter.’ The stirrups come from the personal collection of the late Bob Breitbard the former curator and president of the San Diego Hall of Champions. Breitbard was a former classmate of Williams at San Diego’s Herbert Hoover High School in the mid-1930s. The two remained friends throughout their lives and Williams purportedly gave Breitbard items directly for the museum.
The nave blue red and white stirrups show moderate use and were displayed publicly at the San Diego Hall of Champions for many years as having belonged to Ted Williams. An outstanding offering representing the player many consider “the greatest hitter who ever lived.”
Includes Letter of Provenance from the San Diego Hall of Champions.
