Beloved Chicago Bear Walter Payton is considered in many circles the greatestrunning back in NFL history. At the time of his retirement in 1988“Sweetness” accumulated 16726 rushing yards to sit atop the all-time list. That mark stood until fellow Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith broke itin 2002. His incredible career included ten seasons of 1000+ rushing yards between 1976 and 1986. This lot features a Chicago Bears professional model helmet autographed by the late Walter Payton in bold 8/10 silver marker on the left side. He has added his No. "34" inscription.
The Riddell AF-2 helmet (size 7 1/8) has Chicago "C" logo decals on both sides of the dark navy shell with warning label and size (7 1/8) stickers on the rear. All elements including the facemaskneck pad ear pads interior cushioning and chinstrap are perfectlyintact. The helmet appears unused with minor wear from handling. Payton's signature is slightly smeared but still presents very well. It was acquired by a formerChicago Bears front office executive directly from Payton during the early to mid 1990's.
