This is a genuinely unique dual trophy from the collection of legendary Dodgers skipper Walt Alston in this instance an honor for Alston citing the Dodgers’ 1963 World Series title. Alston directed the fortunes of the Dodgers for 23 seasons between 1954 and 1976 winning seven pennants and four World Series. This award is from 1963 Alston’s fourth National League pennant and third World Series and arguably a highlight even within that lofty universe since the Dodgers managed the unthinkable that fall and swept their hated rivals the Yankees in four games in the World Series. This award is essentially matching silver discs with unusual five-pointed “spires” extending from the face of each. Each disc has “The Academy of Sports Editors Awards” in engraving encircling the circumference; on one disc is engraved “National League Champions of 1963 Los Angeles Dodgers” and on the other: “Outstanding Professional Team of 1963.” All elements of this unique trophy seem to be in largely as-issued and problem-free condition with only a bit of silver tarnishing revealed on one disc. Comes with a Letter of Authenticity from the Walter Alston Collection.
