In 1963 the National League Champion Los Angeles Dodgers finished the regular season with an overall record of 99-63 which placed them six games ahead of the runner-up St. Louis Cardinals. Guided by veteran skipper Walter Alston who was managing in his 10th MLB season the Dodgers went 50-31 at home and were led offensively by sluggers Frank Howard (28 home runs 64 RBI) Tommy Davis (16 home runs 88 RBI) and Ron Fairly (12 home runs 77 RBI). On the mound the Dodgers had the best 1-2 punch in baseball: Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale. Southpaw Koufax went 25-5 and led the league in ERA (1.88) K's (306) and shutouts (11). Not surprisingly he was named the N.L. Cy Young Award winner as well as the N.L. MVP! Drysdale meanwhile tallied a mark of 19-17 with 251 strikeouts. In the World Series the Dodgers defeated the mighty New York Yankees in four straight games with Koufax notching wins in Games 1 and 4 and Drysdale pitching a 1-0 shutout in Game 3.

This lot features the 1963 Los Angeles Dodgers World Series championship ring that was awarded to Manager Walter Alston. The 14K gold ring awarded to Alston for guiding the Dodgers to their third World Championship includes a round brilliant-cut diamond (.85 carat) that commands the face which is set in a blue stone and ringed by the words "Los Angeles Dodgers World Champions." The left shank features ball and bats imagery with his name ("Walt Alston") engraved on the sweet spot. The right shank celebrates the sweep with "4 Straight" terminology the Dodgers' logo and the year "1963." The white gold beauty is stamped "Balfour 14K" on the interior band which measures to size 10 3/4. Fine undamaged condition and comes packaged inside its original Balfour presentation box. A wonderful memento from one of the most gratifying Fall Classics in Dodgers' history.

Includes LOA from the Alston Family.
