Offered is a Los Angeles Dodgers home jersey and matching pants worn by Walter Alston during the club's World Championship season of 1963. The white flannel jersey is lettered "Dodgers" across the front and features the number "24" on the left breast and reverse. All front letters and reverse numerals are appliqued in blue felt. All front numerals are appliqued in red felt. A "Spalding" label is situated on the left front tail. Directly below the manufacturer's label, chain-stitched in blue, are Alston's name, the year, the set number, the size and the uniform number, "Alston 63 - Set 1 46 24." Located along the interior left front tail are a wash tag and adjacent flag tag reading "Set 1 1963." The matching pants are similarly tagged in the waistband, including "Alston 38 26ins" in blue chain stitching.
Original and unaltered, the jersey and pants display light wear throughout and have been impeccably preserved. After losing the NL Championship to the San Francisco Giants the previous season, a determined Alston managed the '63 Dodgers to the pennant and went on to sweep the Yankees 4-0 in the World Series, highlighted by Sandy Koufax' 15-strikeout performance in Game 1 at Yankee Stadium.
