In 1955 the National League Champion Brooklyn Dodgers (98-55) won an exciting seven-game World Series over the vaunted American League Champion New York Yankees (96-57). The Dodgers under the direction of skipper Walter Alston won the decisive seventh game at Yankee Stadium behind the impressive five-hit complete game pitching of right-hander Johnny Podres. Podres who earned complete game victories in Games 3 and 7 was named the World Series MVP. For the record this was the first World Series ever televised in color.
This lot features a beautifully preserved 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers team-signed ONL (Giles) baseball with 24 pristine signatures in blue ink captured including Manager Alston's autograph perfectly centered on the sweet spot. Significant signatures include fellow Hall of Famers Jackie Robinson Sandy Koufax (who did not play in the '55 Fall Classic) and Roy Campanella. Other notable scrawls are from Dodger mainstays like Carl Furillo Jim Gilliam Carl Erskine Dixie Howell Gil Hodges Don Hoak Roger Craig Sandy Amoros and Don Newcombe. PSA has deemed Pee Wee Reese and Duke Snider as clubhouse signed. A remarkable treasure that commemorates one of the most significant seasons in Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers history. Includes original blue jewelry box in which it was received which is emblazoned across the top with gold text reading: "Brooklyn Dodgers 1955 World Champions."
