This is an extraordinary lot of early Olympic-related memorabilia a pair of track and field uniforms from USC track star Charles Parson and an intriguing 1893 souvenir program from the Olympic Club Fair and Revival of Ancient Greco-Roman Games in San Francisco. Both track jerseys have a winged artifice at the front in red felt; one has red knit trimming on the sleeves and shoulders that has shown intense wear and some loss over the 100-plus years. The shirts were ostensibly white at issue now more a beige showing enormous age and wear staining and some tears loss and discoloration; the winged artifice on both shirts also shows damage and wear. One set of shorts is thin linen with 2-inch red satin trim on edges and hip most of which is tremendously worn and even lost at this stage though the strings at the waist are intact. Second set of shorts is sheer sating with red trim showing vast wear and some staining but otherwise intact. The Olympic Club Fair Official Programme so named is even more fascinating with full color front and back paintings of Roman gladiators (Front) and the Olympic Club on back. The programme is 6-by-9 inches with 36 pages printed inside in a purplish tint and fairly typical content including patron listings and advertisements and competitor listings for events that include gladiators boxers wrestlers leapers and laurelled victors but for true turn-of-the-century charm it's hard not to ponder the logistics of the procession of the vestal virgins. Programme is in technically perhaps Good condition but presents much better jostled only by some tearing at the spine and edges. Comes with Letter of Authenticity from the Helms/LA 84 Collection.
