This is a simply stunning racing silk worn by one of the great champion jockeys of the 20th century Johnny Longden the man with the most victories in racing histor with this silk worn in his final winning ride in 1966. Victory No. 6032 came aboard George Royal at Santa Anita Park in California the final ride of a legendary career. The clubhouse at Santa Anita Park contains an oil painting of the finish of this race which was used for the cover of the Santa Anita official program during the 1967 racing season. In 1943 he captured the Triple Crown aboard Count Fleet. In 1958 Longden was inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame. Following his retirement from riding Longden turned to training and became the only person to ever win the Kentucky Derby as both a jockey and trainer when he captured the 1969 Derby with Majestic Prince. With that kind of historic resume comes this colorful silk worn in his final race. The body of the silk is a luxuriant peach color satin with diagonal brown striping and brown satin highlights at the cuffs collar and with the bow tie at the neck. All eight snaps are intact and the silk show race use but is in remarkable condition. Same can be said of the accompanying cap from the same race resplendent in the same exotic color scheme with pink ribbon bow atop the brim and brown tassle at the top. It's difficult to conjure up a more significant thoroughbred racing artifact than the silk and cap worn by the most prolific jockey in history in his final race a winning effort at a major stakes race to boot. Comes with a Letter of Authenticity from the Helms/LA 84 Collection.
