In the sport of thoroughbred racing nothing gets you closer to the action than a race-worn racing silk by the jockey. The uniform of the competitive riders the racing silks are designed for speed and comfort and as little air resistance as possible. This lot features three jockeys’ racing silks with matching caps. Stemming from the San Diego Hall of Champions Collection two of the three silks are embroidered with the names of two longtime successful thoroughbred owners who lived in San Diego: Eugene V. Klein and Allen Paulsen.

The offered silks and their matching caps run the gamut of colors. The first is yellow with blue and white trim and is actually made of a nylon base. The lower rear of the racing silk is embroidered in blue with “Eugene V. Klein” the former owner of the San Diego Chargers who became a prolific horseracing businessman for a decade before passing away in 1990. Across the silk’s chest is a San Diego Chargers lightning bolt in blue trimmed in white. Both the racing silk as well as its matching cap includes manufacturer’s tagging that reads “Silks Unlimited Lexington KY.” The inside brim of the cap is marked “E.V. Klein” in black marker. The second racing silk also made of nylon material features a red white and blue theme and boasts a large “AP” across the chest and red embroidery down the gig line reading “Allen Paulsen.” A series of five sewn-on white stars runs down either sleeve. A manufacturer’s tag reading “Custom Racing Colors Arcadia CA” appears on the inside front left tail. The accompanying matching nylon cap is red and blue with a white bow on the brim.

The last of the three racing silks is indeed silk. It’s a lavender base with a large white star featured across the chest with four matching white snaps running down the middle. The rear of the silk also features a large white star as part of its design. There is no manufacturer’s tag or other identifiers present and its accompanying white silk cap is sporting a white bow on its brim. The racing silk shows wear and some slight discoloration and staining across the front.

Includes a letter of provenance from the San Diego Hall of Champions.
