The late great Ted Williams played for the Boston Red Sox from 1939 to 1960. Despite losing five seasons to military service in WWII and the Korean War Williams still managed to hit 521 home runs and posted a career bating average of .344. This lot features Teddy Ballgame’s circa 1950’s MLB Lifetime Pass that was awarded to him by Major League Baseball in appreciation for his longstanding service to the game of baseball.
The significant silver-plated rectangular pass measures 2.75” wide x 1.75” high and displays ornate raised lettering including William’s own facsimile signature. The pass which was issued to Williams in the 1950’s is remarkably clean with minimal surface wear and includes: its original leather sheath; the original cardboard message/greeting from MLB’s AL and NL Presidents Ford C. Frick and William Harridge; and its original exterior box which is sporting several handwritten notations through the years by Williams himself including “Baseball Life Pass” in black fountain pen. It has been commonly remarked by players that the Lifetime Pass bore great importance to the legacy of their respective careers and is considered a great honor to receive.
