in 1965 Sandy Koufax pitched 335 2/3 innings while leading the Dodgers to another pennant. He won the second of his three pitching Triple Crowns and second unanimous Cy Young Award. He won 26 games and set a modern record with 382 strikeouts. He allowed the fewest base runners per nine innings in any season ever 7.83 breaking his own record set two years earlier.

Was there anything left for him to do? He had thrown three No Hitters; One in each of the three seasons prior to 1965 leaving him tied for the most ever with the legendary Bob Feller. But none of his No Hitters had been perfect games. All that was about to change on September 9 1965.

In that outing against the Chicago Cubs Koufax became the sixth pitcher of the modern era and eighth overall to throw a perfect game. It was the first by a left-hander since 1880. It broke his tie with Bob Feller and he now stood alone with four No-Hitters. He struck out 14 batters; the most ever in a perfect game. It was his last No-Hitter and he would pitch only one more year (another magnificent Cy Young season) before his severe arthritic arm ailment forced him to retire at the age of 30. He had given his all winning 27 games & pitching 323 innings in 41 starts with an ERA of 1.73; unheard of numbers for present day starting pitchers. As soon as he was eligible he became the youngest player ever elected to the Hall of Fame at age 36. This program is from that historic perfect game on a night when the greatest pitcher who ever lived threw the greatest game of his life… Perfect.

The program is fully scored in light pencil and shows moderate handling wear with some chipping at the corners. Present within is the telltale Cubs schedule printing quirk legitimizing this program as a true Perfect Game program as opposed to a generic regular season program. An important and scarce artifact from the legendary career of Sandy Koufax.
