On September 26, 1981, Nolan Ryan pitched his fifth career no-hitter, separating him from Sandy Koufax as the man with the most No-Nos in baseball history. That Saturday afternoon, Ryan and the Astros faced the eventual World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers at the Houston Astrodome. Dusty Baker grounded out to third to end the game, securing a 5-0 win for the ‘Stros and igniting a wild celebration on the infield. The Express would go on to toss two more no-hitters to finish with an unfathomable seven in his storied career.

This Official National League (Charles Feeney) ball was used during Ryan’s record-breaking no-no, showing scuffs and contact marks as well as moderate-to-heavy soiling. Ryan has signed the ball in 8-9/10 blue ballpoint “To Barry, Best Wishes Nolan Ryan 9/26/81” on a side panel to the Astros’ Director of Team Travel, Barry Waters. The ball comes with a letter of provenance from Waters as well as a full LOA from PSA/DNA and an auction LOA from JSA.
