This lot features a game-worn 1992-93 Seattle SuperSonics jersey and 1993-94 Reebok Pumps sneakers pairing from former NBA big man Sam “Big Smooth” Perkins. The 6’ 9” lefty with the soft outside shooting touch played 17 seasons in the NBA with four different teams and finished with career averages of 12 points and 6 rebounds per game. Teammates with Michael Jordan and James Worthy on the UNC Tar Heels’ 1982 NCAA title team Sam never got to taste championship glory as a pro despite playing for some great teams in L.A. Seattle and Indiana.
The white jersey has become a classic from that era with team name “SONICS” ironed on front and player name “PERKINS” on back in matching white heat-pressed on a green background with yellow trim. His uniform number “14” in green with yellow trim appears front and back. The appropriate [size] 48 Champion tagging is found on left front tail with 1992-93 “Designed and Tailored Exclusively For SEATTLE SUPERSONICS” and the NBA Authentics logo plus “Body Length +6” below. Perkins has autographed the white mesh shirt across the green panel on front in black marker and added “#14” next to his signature.
The green-and-white Reebok Pump high-top sneakers come in size 16 and have the familiar orange air-pumping basketball on the tongues with “Above The Rim” stamped there and on the insoles. They are properly tagged on the interior by Reebok and are both signed by Perkins in black fine-point marker on the outer heels. He added “14” next to his signature. Well-preserved they show excellent game use. Both items come directly from the personal collection of Coby Karl (son of longtime NBA coach George Karl) who played in the NBA from 2007-10. He received all items from his collection either straight from the player or through his father who coached Perkins during his tenure in Seattle.
