As an integral part of 10 World Championship Celtic teams Boston substantially raised Sam Jones’ salary for the 1964-65 seasons to $26000. The money will prove well spent as Jones was the Celtics leading scorer that season leading the team to the 6th of their 8 consecutive NBA Championships. This Uniform Player Contract is dated October 15 1964 and has been signed by Jones Celtics VP and Coach Red Auerbach (signed “Arnold Auerbach”) Mary M. Whalen and NBA President J. Walter Kennedy in blue pen. The contract has two horizontal folds from mailing and the signatures are well preserved. The original mailing envelope is included with the contract. Postmarked October 23 1964 the Celtics envelope shows edge wear and tearing along with toning from age.
