This is Ozzie's Olympic Torch from the 1996 Summer Games in Atlanta housed here in an imposing 3-foot tall wooden stand with the torch encased in an acrylic holder on a black base that says "1996 Olympic Torch Presented to Ozzie Smith." The Centennial torch consists of 22 reeds - one of each of the Olympic Games with a center "handle" of Georgia hardwood. The names of each host city are etched in a gold band near the torch base; another band above the wood shows the Atlanta Games logo and Quilt of Leaves. At 32 inches high this is the tallest torch for a Summer Olympic Games. Its diameter varies from 2 1/4 inches at the bottom to 3 1/2 inches at the top. The reeds are aluminum; hardwood is either pecan or hickory with two gold-plated brass bands. The bottom wood base is 12 inches by 9 inches and includes a plaque that reads: "In appreciation for your participation in the Twin Cities Olympic Torch Relay Celebration May 12 1996 Eagle Bank and Trust Company of Jefferson County Central States Coca-Cola Bottling Company. The entire piece appears to be in essentially as-issued and problem-free condition.
