Howie Long the current NFL analyst for Fox Sports was once a bone-crushing defensive end for the Los Angeles Raiders. In a professional football career that spanned 13 seasons (1981 to 93) Long recorded 84 quarterback sacks along the way and helped the silver-and-black win Super Bowl XVIII when they annihilated the Washington Redskins 38-9. This is Longs game-worn AiR (Bike brand acquired by Schutt in 80's) helmet from the mid-1980's in which he posted back-to-back First Team All-Pro campaigns in 1984 and 85 and helped the Raiders record 43 regular-season victories from 1983 to 86. The silver shell with two Raiders decals on the side sports AiR's patented foam cushion and air bladder padding system and is equipped with Long's original chinstrap and triple-decker facemask. Excessive on-field collisions with offensive linemen and opposing ball carriers have produced noticeable scrapes scars and paint transfers on the helmet as well as its intimidating full cage mask. Longs longtime uniform No. 75 can be found in black at the base of the helmet with Long 75 written in black marker inside the right earhole. Original snap-on ear pads are all intact. Long has signed the top of the helmet in fine-point black Sharpie.
Includes a letter of provenance from the Newport Sports Museum.
