Kevin Greene was a relentless pass-rusher the quintessential "high motor" guy with a nose for getting to the quarterback throughout his 15 years in the NFL. This is his game-worn helmet from the 1986 season his 2nd in the league as a member of the Los Angeles Rams and it certainly shows the punishment many signal callers have taken from the blonde-haired wild man whose 160 career sacks rank 3rd all-time behind Bruce Smith and Reggie White. In fact Greene has the most sacks ever by a linebacker. He was named to 5 Pro Bowls and was the 1996 NEA Defensive Player of the Year. He showed tremendous staying power in the NFL leading the league in sacks (14.5) at the age of 34 as a member of the Carolina Panthers. He is best known for the eight seasons he spent with the Rams (1985-92) who came within one game of the Super Bowl in 1985 and 1989. A character on and off the field Greene made a few appearances on the WCW circuit following his football career tag-teaming with with fellow NFL retiree Steve McMichael on more than one occasion.
The Rams' yellow on navy blue Riddell helmet shows an incredible amount of game use particularly on the front of the shell where dozens of scratches and paint marks from tackling are visible. The two yellow Rams horn decals on each side of the shell are in excellent shape as is the 'RAMS' sticker on the forehead. The navy facemask is gashed mostly the middle bars but remains intact along with the original chinstrap. There is a '91 GREENE' dymo sticker on the inside by the left earhole. All interior padding is intact. Overall the helmet comes as-issued. Just an awesome NFL game-used specimen.
