Frank Robinson was one of baseballs great gamers. As Rookie of the Year in 1956 and an MVP in both leagues (with the Reds in 1961 and the Orioles in 66) he developed a reputation as an aggressive outfielder and hard-charging baserunner. The American League Triple Crown winner in 1966 Robinson amassed 586 home runs and ended his career just 57 hits shy of the 3000-hit club. His intelligence and leadership helped him become MLB's first African-American manager in 1975 when he skippered the Cleveland Indians. It is with Baltimore however that Robinsons legacy is most entrenched. Prior to becoming the Orioles' skipper 1988-91 Robinson was a hitting and bench coach for his former club and here are a two game-worn pieces from his 1985-88 coaching tenure.

1) 1985 Orioles gray road pants size 36 with black white & orange stripes at waistband and down the side of each leg. '85 36H 26' and 'F.ROBINSON 20' tagging sewn inside waist along with MacGregor Sand-Knit 'Designed & Tailored Exclusively for the Baltimore Orioles' manufacturer's tagging. Pants exhibit moderate use and come largely as issued with no alterations of any kind. All buttons drawstrings and zippers are completely intact.

2) Mid 1980's Orioles orange Majestic mesh batting practice #20 jersey (size not given but looks to be 42-44). Classic 'Orioles' in cursive on front with Frank's No. 20 on back both appearing in black tackle twill outlined in white. BP jerseys typically do not have player's name on back. The team's orange white & black pattern appears on elastic end of both sleeves. V-neck has black elastic with white stripe in middle. Breathable mesh fabric shows good wear with two visible spots of pilling on front below numbers. Comes as issued with no alterations of any kind and all proper characteristics of a batting practice worn jersey.

Includes Letter of Authenticity from the Orioles Scouting Director Tom Giordano.

The items in this lot come from the personal collection of longtime MLB executive Tom Giordano. After a very brief playing stint at 2nd base for the Philadelphia Athletics in 1953 Giordano moved on to a coaching managing and scouting career in baseball that is now 66 years and counting (began in 1948 in minor leagues). He was Director of Scouting and Player Development for the Baltimore Orioles from 1976-1987 before moving on to similar baseball operations positions with the Cleveland Indians and Texas Rangers. In 2007 Giordano was named East Coast Scout of the Year.
