This is the actual RIAA certified platinum album award presented to British singer/songwriter Mick Jackson for his collaboration on The Jacksons’ Destiny surpassing 1000000 copies sold. The 1978 album by the famous fivesome of Jackson brothers included the hit single “Blame it on the Boogie” which was originally written and recorded by Germany-based Mick Jackson. It was The Jackson’ version that had much more success on the charts. Victor Willis original lead singer and songwriter of Village People("Y.M.C.A.") purchased this from the Michael Jackson Family Collectionin Guernsey’s live auction at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on May31 2007.
The display piece is framed to overall dimensions of 17"by 26" with a gold vinyl record of the aforementioned album at center.On the bottom left is an image of the album cover and on the bottom left is the official RIAA(Recording Industry Association of America) Certified Sales Award plaque describing the awardand its recipient. The track list decal has fallen off the vinyl record and is loose towards the bottom. If removed from the frame this can be easily fixed.
In his detailed letter ofprovenance Willis states "I got to know Michael and his family on apersonal level. My band just so happened to be performing in Las Vegasthat weekend so I thought I’d check out the auction. I ended upparticipating and won this lot as well as a few other album awardspresented to Michael and his family members. Each award is a 1 of 1edition made only for its recipient. That’s what makes each one sounique and valuable."
