This is the actual RIAA certified gold album award presented to Michael Jackson for his 1982 Thriller surpassing 500000 copies sold. The 1982 hit record is still the top-selling album of all-time with an estimated 65 million copies sold. This is the only one issued directly to the "King of Pop" making it an incredibly important and heavily-coveted piece to own. Victor Willis original lead singer and songwriter of Village People("Y.M.C.A.") purchased this from the Michael Jackson Family Collectionin Guernsey’s live auction at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on May31 2007.
The display piece is framed to overall dimensions of 17"by 26" with a gold vinyl record of the aforementioned album at center with a gold cassette tape labeled "GOLD SALES AWARD." On the bottom is an image of the album cover and the official RIAA(Recording Industry Association of America) Certified Sales Award plaque describing the awardand its recipient: "PRESENTED TO MICHAEL JACKSON TO COMMEMORATE THE SALE OF MORE THAN 500000 COPIES OF THE EPIC RECORDS ALBUM AND CASSETTE 'THRILLER' "
In his detailed letter of provenance Willis states "I got to knowMichael and his family on a personal level. My band just so happened tobe performing in Las Vegas that weekend so I thought I’d check out theauction. I ended up participating and won this lot as well as a fewother album awards presented to Michael and his family members. Eachaward is a 1 of 1 edition made only for its recipient. That’s what makeseach one so unique and valuable."
