This lot includes three album/song sales awards presented to members of the Jackson Family. Members of the R&B/Pop group 3T—made up of Tito Jackson’s three sons—received the included RIAA gold sales award (500000 copies sold) for their song “Didn’t Mean to Hurt You” on the Free Willy soundtrack. Tito Jackson received the included Dutch album sales award for 3T’s Brotherhood surpassing 50000 copies sold in the Netherlands. Katherine Jackson the matriarch of the Jackson Family received the included RIAA gold sales award for 3T’s debut single “Anything.” Victor Willis original lead singer and songwriter of Village People("Y.M.C.A.") purchased these from the Michael Jackson Family Collectionin Guernsey’s live auction at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on May31 2007.
Each framed display piece has a slightly different layout. The Free Willy (12.5" by 17") and "Anything" (16.5" by 24") awards have a CD and cassette tape at center and the official RIAA(Recording Industry Association of America) Certified Sales Award plaquedescribing the awardand its recipient on the bottom. The Brotherhood award measures 18" by 18" with two CD's and the NVPI certified plaque.
In his detailed letter ofprovenance Willis states "I got to know Michael and his family on apersonal level. My band just so happened to be performing in Las Vegasthat weekend so I thought I’d check out the auction. I ended upparticipating and won a few album awardspresented to Michael and his family members. Each award is a 1 of 1edition made only for its recipient. That’s what makes each one sounique and valuable."
