As a redshirt freshman at Virginia Tech in 1999 Michael Vick had one of the most impressive debut seasons in college football history leading the undefeated Hokies to a BCS National Championship showdown against heavily favored Florida State in the Sugar Bowl played on January 4 2000. Vick electrified the 80000 in attendance at the Louisiana Superdome and the several million watching on TV that evening single-handedly bringing his team back from a 21-point deficit to take a 29-28 lead heading into the 4th quarter. Even though V-Tech lost the game their star quarterback won an ESPY Award for his standout performance during the regular season and that memorable Sugar Bowl. He was the best player on the field that game and the entire season.
Presented here is Michael Vick’s very own 2000 Sugar Bowl and 1999 Big East Champions ring offered for the first time publicly directly and coming straight from his personal collection. Made of yellow lustrium (YLTM) and studded with CZ’s of various size the top has “BIG EAST CHAMPIONS 1999” in raised and debossed letters surrounding a football made of CZ’s. The right shank has “VIRGINIA TECH" and the logo of the 2000 Nokia Sugar Bowl; the left shank has a Virginia Tech helmet with “VICK” and “Hokies 11-1” in raised letters. A local jeweler will tell you this ring is not blessed with the finest precious metals--hardly any modern college championship player's ring is. But there's no telling the intrinsic value of what this ring represents a performance for the ages that led to Vick being selected as the #1 overall pick a few years later. The ring shows light wear. Size 11-3/4. Inside stamped "Jostens YLTM."
