Original Type I photo of the infamous Hindenburg Disaster that occurred on May 6 1937. The ill-fated LZ 129 Hindenburg caught fire while attempting to land at Lakehurst Naval Air Station in Manchester New Jersey. The massive zeppelin burst into flames and fully combusted killing a total of 36 people (35 on board and one on the ground). The catastrophe was a final blow to the controversy surrounding several similar airship tragedies leading up to that date and it essentially put an end to the Zeppelin Company’s dirigible hydrogen-filled aircrafts. Backed by an AP caption the landscape presents in essentially mint condition.
