Even though Marilyn Monroe was the most desired movie star at the time she none-the-less went out of her way to connect with her fans through her many public appearances. One of her more famous publicity tours was her 1954 visit to Korea where she entertained American servicemen. Performing in a show called “Anything Goes” Marilyn entertained over 100000 homesick U.S. solders in a whirlwind 4-day tour.
This original photograph captures the blonde bombshell waving to the troops from the cockpit of a military helicopter. Even in GI fatigues and combat boots Marilyn’s beauty shines through her platinum blonde hair perfectly coiffed and her million dollar smile lighting up her face. The Type I photo measures 5” x 6-3/4”. The back features a United Press Photos Tokyo stamp as well as the glue residue from where the caption slug was affixed. The photograph has been encapsulated and graded Type I by PSA/DNA.
NOTE: The flip on the holder is dated C. 1953 but we know that Monroe was not in Korea until her honeymoon in 1954. We can send to Henry Ye at PSA for correction on behalf of the winning bidder once the sale is complete.
