Here's a wow grouping that challenges the capabilities of prose to convey an impact. Offered are eight "pennants" from the 1956 Melbourne Olympics simply stunning artifacts of exquisite detail and elegance seemingly all from volleyball and all exhibiting a degree of craftsmanship and peculiarity that captivates. Each is affixed in varying fashion to a wooden trowell; Four of the pennants are generally 11 inches across at the top and triangled 16 inches vertically and four others are larger roughly 12 inches across and 22 inches vertical with the larger ones using metal trowels and often boasting much more colorful and elaborate embroidery. The larger pennants also can boast higher quality fabrics including satin and deep rich felt. Replete with splashy tassles and accoutrements of wide description the pennants generally display symbols from the different countries the date 1956 and often country name or abbreviation. Without benefit of a United Nations handbook we'll take a stab at identification as best we can. Of the four smaller pennants the lineup would seem to be two identical versions from Czechoslovakia (the only duplication in the lot) one from Israel and one from Poland. The four larger ones could seem to be from Japan Romania Hungary and a certain communist nation with a liking to elegant red felt a notion gleaned from hammer and sickle style seal. There would seem to be no serious condition issues with any of the pieces not even with the multi-colored tassels or the extraordinarily intricate braiding on the edges. Includes a Letter of Authenticity from the Helms/LA 84 Collection.
