A fascinating collectible offered here in the form of fencing foils including one to the legendary amateur sportsman Gustavus Town Kirby a prominent AAU and US Olympic Committee official from early in the 20th century. He was the president of the Amateur Athletic Union from 1911 to 1913 and served on every United States Olympic Committee from 1896 to 1956. He was president of the United States Olympic Committee for the 1920 Summer Olympics and the chairman for the 1924 Summer Olympics. He was chairman of the advisory committee for the Intercollegiate Association of Amateur Athletes of America from 1896 to 1928. The presentation foil has ornate engravings and colorful Olympic pins affixed alongside highlighted by an engraved tribute: To the fencing champion and good friend to the Argentine people Gustavus Town Kirby in name of Argentina sportsmen." Two colorful Olympic pins are affixed below and at the top of the shield is another ornate symbol in gold. All elements of the foil appear intact and as issued with usage apparent. The second foil has a simpler shield silver as well but without engraving or other accoutrement; the threading used to create and handle has loosened and unravels a bit but hardly detracts from the presentation. Includes a Letter of Authenticity from the Helms/LA 84 Collection.
