This lot featured the following four Olympic participation medals:
1) 1960 Rome Summer Games. Cast bronze medal designed by Emilio Greco andminted by Bertoni of Milan. 55 mm diameter; 4-5 mmthick; 80 grams. Obverse shows nude female torchbearerin foreground with the Olympic rings in background. Reverseshows flight of eagles soaring over Rome stadium with "GIOCHI DELLA XVII OLYMPIADE ROMA MCMLX" inscribed around the rim. One highlight from 1960 Games wasyoung Cassius Clay winning boxing gold medal in LightHeavyweight division. Medal has some greenish patina and presents EX-MT.
2) 1976 Montreal Summer Games. Bronze medal designed by G. Huel / P. Pelletier and minted by Royal Canadian Mint. Diameter 45 mm; thickness 3 mm; weight 42 grams. Obverse has Montreal Games logo. Reverse has Montreal Olympic stadium above two lines of raised text “XXleOlympiade Montreal 1976”. Moderate handling and tarnishing make it EX condition.
3) 1980 Moscow Summer Games. Tombac (brass alloy with copper) medal designed by Angelina Leonova and minted by Leningrad Mint. Diameter 60 mm; thickness 3-5 mm; weight 128 grams. Obverse has the Moscow Games emblem above Olympic stadium andraised Cyrillic lettering. Reverse has detailed view of RedSquare in Moscow. Presents NM. Comes with original red velvet-lined presentation case.
4) 1988 Calgary Winter Games. Bronze medal designedby C. Martens and minted by Jostens. 64 mm diameter; 5 mm thick; 138 grams. Obverse has Calgary Olympic emblem in stylized snowflakedesign with legend inscribed around rim. Reverse has Olympic motto under Saddle Dome Stadium with panoramaof Calgary and Canadian Rockies in background. Presents NM-MT. Comeswith original brown presentation case.
