Offered here is a late 1960's Cincinnati Reds game-worn cap attributed to the great Johnny Bench. A 14-time All-Star twice named National League Most Valuable Player Bench helped lead the "Big Red Machine" to six division titles four pennants and two World Series championships during his Hall of Fame career. The red fitted cap comes in size 7 5/8 as indicated by the rear hidden flag tag and has his No. "5" written in black marker adjacent to the Wilson Sporting Goods Co. manufacturer's tagging. Severe sweat staining is evident under the brim and along the forehead band with more on the outside brim and rear. The cap was presented as game-used by Bench and by all accounts this seems to be accurate. According to the dealer who has consigned it the cap was originally procured by a longtime Reds season-ticket holder who attended many Reds games in the 1960's and 70's and apparently acquired several items directly from players and team personnel.
