This lot features a an eclectic mix of former Major League ballplayers game-worn caps circa late 1960's to early 1970s. Each cap was presented as game-used and by all accounts this seems to be accurate. According to the dealer who has consigned them (along with the Johnny Bench cap in Lot 535) they were originally procured by a longtime Reds season-ticket holder who attended many Reds games in the 1960's and 70's and apparently acquired several items directly from players and team personnel.

The first cap is attributed to Chicago Cubs fan favorite Billy Williams who played at the Friendly Confines of Wrigley Field from 1959 all the way up until 1974. The size 6 7/8 Wilson Pro Model blue wool cap sports the Cubbies' official C logo on the front in embroidered red outlined in white. The interior sweatband shows serious sweat stains with the number 26 barely visible on the left side in faded blue ballpoint. The size is stamped twice inside both visible on the outer sweatband and hidden on the other side with a flag tag for good measure. "BSC" code is also stamped on the hidden side of the sweatband indicating that is was manufactured in 1969.

The next cap a New Era Pro Model is attributed to former Dodgers speedy centerfielder Willie Davis who played for the Blue Crew from 1960 through 1973. The size 7 3/8 blue wool cap with white "LA" logo has a size flag tag and a thick tan leather/plastic sweatband. It shows solid game use and includes Daviss uniform number 3 in black marker underneath the brim.

The final cap is attributed to Atlanta Braves mainstay infielder Marty Perez who played a little over five seasons (1971 until 76) with the club. The navy blue wool Wilson cap shows outstanding wear with sweat staining and soiling a-plenty sports the Braves official embroidered white A logo on the front. Perezs old uniform number 9 can be seen faintly on the underside of the brim in what was once black marker. The 6 7/8 size flag tag is hidden on the other side of the interior sweatband.
