These Adidas Superstar green suede shoes are the same pair John Havlicek wore in Game 6 of the 1976 NBA Finals as the Boston Celtics closed out the Phoenix Suns for their 13th World Championship. Coming off a thrilling 3-OT home victory in Game 5 that Rick Barry (then a CBS analyst) called "the most exciting basketball game I've ever seen" the Celtics headed to Phoenix to close out the series. And that's exactly what they did. Game 6 was a defensive battle as Boston's halftime lead of 38-33 culminated in an 87-80 grind-it-out win. After a clutch 22-point performance in Game 5 Havlicek scored 10 points in the clincher and finished with series averages of 15.5 points 5.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists - slightly below his career marks. Yet Havlicek's defense and leadership intangibles don't show up in the box score. It would be the last of Havlicek's eight NBA titles (tied for 3rd all-time) securing his spot in the Hall of Fame.
Evidenced in standout game-used condition these incredible keepsakes show strong game use but are offered otherwise problem-free even down to the nap of the notoriously finicky suede leather. The shoestrings are intact and show some of the expected discoloration from the green suede. There is virtually no sign of fraying of the stitching around any of the white stripes or the support areas around the heel as well as minimal cracking of the white stripe leather sections. A strong black Sharpie Havlicek autograph appears along the outside left heel.
Comes with a Letter of Authenticity from John Havlicek as well as a hand-written note tagging the game and date worn.
