Jimmy Demaret was an American professional golfer who won 31 PGA Tour events in a long and distinguished career between 1935 and 1957. He was also the first three-time winner of the Masters claiming titles in 1940 '47 and '50. A native of Houston Texas Demarets playing style was developed by necessity through the windy conditions of his native state. He favored a low fade (left-to-right flight) on his longer shots; the method gave good distance and excellent control. This lot features one of Demarets key clubs a 2 iron that he used to win two of his Masters championships (1947 and 50). The 40 Jimmy Demaret model custom built 2 iron was manufactured by the Professional Golf Co. of America in Chattanooga Tennessee. It boasts an unusual handle design made of black rubber and what appears to be white strings vertically positioned next to one another to provide better grip. This is the 2 iron that Demaret donated to the special project on behalf of the Boys Club of Royal Oak Michigan. In a signed typed letter on Champions Golf Club letterhead that accompanied the donation dated July 7 1976 Demaret wrote: I would like to congratulate you and the Boys Club of Royal Oak. I am enclosing under separate cover one of my favorite 2 irons that I had the pleasure of winning the Masters with a couple of times. I feel that I am donating this 2 iron to a very good cause. Demaret died of a heart attack in 1983 at the age of 73. He was getting ready to play another round of golf.

Includes original signed letter that Demaret sent to the Boys' Club of Royal Oak as well as a signed black-and-white 8" x 10" photo of Demaret in competition.

Includes Letter of Provenance from the Newport Sports Museum.

Letter pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
