Jesse Owens’ Olympic feats at the 1936 Games made him something more than just an American athlete. His actions, both on the athletic field and off, served as an inspiration to millions of admirers and embodied ideal set forth by Baron Pierre de Coubertin who founded the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1894, leading to the first modern Games in Athens in 1896. This bronze medal, presented to Jesse Owens by the Canadian Olympic Association, is an example of how his accomplishments and legacy had become celebrated by nations the world over. The medal, made of pure bronze (63mm in diameter, 5mm thick, 128g) has the Canadian Olympic Association logo engraved on the front with a reverse featuring a Grecian athletic motif known originally designed by R. Tait McKenzie for the 1932 Games. The medal shows light toning and abrasions from age. Rim engraved by maker "MEDALLIC ART CO. NY" and "BRONZE".
Includes LOA signed by each of Jesse Owens' three daughters.
