In 1979 Anaconda Industries sponsored the “Jesse Owens Games,” a nationwide athletic competition for boys and girls ages 10 to 15. Winners from a series of regional events were invited to compete in the finals in Los Angeles. In recognition for his efforts for the Chicago Regional Championships, Owens was presented with this trophy by the sponsors. Measuring 15" x 5" x 14½", this award consists of an abstract wire sculpture mounted on a wood base. A brass plaque mounted to the front reads, “JESSE OWENS FOR THE 1979 CHICAGO REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP PRESENTED BY ANACONDA WIRE & CABLE SYCAMORE, ILLINOIS”.” The award shows some abrasions and scuffs from age.
Includes LOA signed by each of Jesse Owens' three daughters.
