During the San Francisco 49ers' opening game of the 1997 season Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice tore the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in his left knee on a reverse. The injury the result of being dragged down by the facemask by Buccaneers defensive lineman Warren Sapp broke his consecutive games played streak at 189. Though Rice came back 14 weeks later much earlier than doctors anticipated and scored a touchdown against Denver in Week 15 he failed to play in the postseason after suffering a cracked patella in his left kneecap on the touchdown catch. Therefore he missed the postseason including the Niners 23-10 loss to the Green Bay Packers in the NFC title game. Nevertheless Rice was there to cheer on his teammates and even signed this official Wilson game-used football attributed to the January 11 1998 battle at 3Com Park. The autograph is situated across one panel of the football is in silver Sharpie and includes Rices uniform number (#80) and S.F. 49ers below it. The autograph is solid and rates 8-9/10 in our book.

From the collection of the late Dave Rahn (pictured with Rice) the 49ers' Director of Operations for 16 years. Includes LOA from his wife. Autograph pre-certified by PSA/DNA.

From 1986-2002 Dave Rahn served an integral role within the San Francisco 49ers organization. Starting as a public relations and media coordinator he soon took over as director of travel and team services where he was responsible for all football operations including travel and accommodations practice schedules lodging and meal planning. He later managed the concert tours for Fleetwood Mac Sheryl Crow and Lionel Richie. In 2014 Dave Rahn passed away after a courageous 2-year battle with cancer. "He was like a wheel and all these spokes from those years came from him" said his close friend former linebacker Gary Plummer. "He kept the 49ers family from those times together." His collection includes dozens of 49ers game-worn and autographed items gifted by the many players and staff members who were loyal friends to Dave and will forever remain close to his loving family.
