Though there are countless illustrations of Jackie Robinson in his familiar Brooklyn Dodgers uniform, there are few of the Hall of Famer with his minor league club, the Montreal Royals. This dramatic watercolor and colored pencil piece was created by artist Mark Cavanagh and depicts Robinson in his follow-through swing during his 1946 season with the Royals. This illustration was selected as the primary cover art for William Brown’s definitive 1996 book on the Royals, “The Fabulous Montreal Royals.” The piece has some tape and wear from production use and book itself is in outstanding condition. A beautiful original depiction of Jackie Robinson before he made the Dodgers used for the cover of a major book on the Montreal Royals.
