Jack Burke is an American professional golfer who was most prominent in the 1950s. He first rose to fame with two lopsided victories in the Ryder Cup matches in 1951 and was subsequently selected for the 1953 55 57 and 59 teams serving as playing captain in 57. He won 18 professional tournament during his career including two majors both in 1956: the Masters and PGA Championship. This lot features a tournament-used 3 iron that Burke competed with during his touring days. The well-worn 39 MacGregor 3 iron shows plenty of usage and boasts a burgundy leather grip that runs 10 long. This is the club that Burke chose to donate to the special project on behalf of the Boys Club of Royal Oak Michigan. In a signed typed letter on Champions Golf Club letterhead that accompanied the donation dated June 28 1976 Burke wrote: I am truly interested in the boys of our country and it gives me great pleasure to know that my 3 iron might help the Boys Club. This 3 iron comes from my set of MacGregors that I used in my touring days. Thank you for involving me in this drive to the help the Boys Club of America. Sincerely Jack Burke.

Includes original signed letter that Burke sent to the Boys' Club of Royal Oak as well as a black-and-white 5" x 7" photo showing Burke in action.

Includes Letter of Provenance from the Newport Sports Museum.
