San Diego native Gene Littler is an American professional golfer and a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame. Known for a solid temperament and nicknamed "Gene the Machine" for his smooth rhythmical swing he once said: "Golf is not a game of great shots. It's a game of the best misses. The people who win make the smallest mistakes." Littler won 29 PGA Tour events and one major championship: the 1961 U.S. Open. He finished second in a pair of majors: 1970 Masters and 1977 PGA Championship. This lot features one of Littlers 8 irons which he used in tournament play for many years. The 36.5 Pro Model Golden Ram 8 iron shows substantial wear as does the black leather-wrapped grip. In a signed typed letter on his personalized letterhead that accompanied the donation dated August 8 1976 Boros wrote: Thank you for the opportunity of allowing me to assist in the Boys Club of Royal Oak Michigan. This 8 iron is one that I used in tournament play for several years. May I wish the club all the best.

Includes original letter that Littler sent to the Boys' Club of Royal Oak as well as a signed black-and-white 8" x 10" photo showing Littler standing next to his Ram golf bag and set of clubs. He signed it in black fine-point marker and added the inscription: Best Wishes.

Includes Letter of Provenance from the Newport Sports Museum.

Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
