Terrific grouping of four Olympic Participation medals issued to Olympic athletes from three Summer Games and one Winter Games. All medals remain in NM-MT or Mint condition with few, if any, blemishes.
1956 Melbourne Summer Participation Medal. Made of bronze and designed by Andor Meszaros. 63 mm diamater, 4 mm thick, and 102 grams. Obverse has Olympic motto encircled by pairs of athletes following the march of a flag-bearer. Reverse has Melbourne coat of arms and Olympic rings, with raised text along the rop rim, "Olympic Games Melbourne 1956." Has aged well overall with just a few tiny oxidation spots. Includes original clear plastic presentation case.
1984 Los Angeles Summer Participation Medal. Made of bronze. Minted by Jostens. 60mm in diameter; 5 mm thick; 94 grams. Designed by Dugald Stermer. Obverse has raised image of the '84 L.A. Olympic torch. Reverse has '84 L.A. Olympic legend over Olympic rings and laurel branches. Comes in original blue velvet presentation case enclosed within blue & white cardboard box.
1988 Calgary Winter Participation Medal: Made of bronze. Minted by Jostens. 64mm in diameter; 133 grams. Designed by C. Martens. Obverse has Calgary Olympic emblem and stylized snowflake design. Reverse has '88 Calgary Olympic legend under Saddle Dome Stadium with panorama of Calgary and Canadian Rockies in background. Comes in original brown presentation case enclosed within Jostens Canada Ltd. paper stock box.
1988 Seoul Summer Participation Medal: Made of bronze by Korea Security Printing and Minting. 60mm in diameter; 6 mm thick; 116 grams. Same size as Bronze 3rd Place award medals. Designed by Kim Kwang-Hyun. Obverse has Namdaemun ("Great South Gate") flanked by familiar motifs (mountains, cloud, rain, sun and crane) in ancient Korean folk paintings. Reverse has '88 Seoul Olympic legend. Comes in original blue velvet presentation case enclosed within thick paper stock box with Korean Olympic Tiger mascot embossed in gold on the top.
