Nice grouping of five participation medals from the 1984 Olympics including three from the Los Angeles Summer Games, one from the Sarajevo Winter Games, and one by the Polish Olympic Committee commemorating both Games that calendar year.
1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympics Participation Medal: Made of bronze. Minted by Jostens. 60mm in diameter; 5 mm thick; 94 grams. Designed by Dugald Stermer. Obverse - Olympic torch. Reverse - Los Angeles Olympic emblem over Olympic rings and laurel branches. EX-MT condition. Case not included.
1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympics Volunteer Medals (2): Designed by Dugland Sterner and minted by Jostens. Same size and material as regular participation medal. Obverse - Olympic motto "Citius Altius Fortius" over L.A. Coliseum. Reverse - Los Angeles Olympic emblem. Lighter, shinier of the two (NM) comes in its original blue velvet presentation case enclosed in blue box. Darker, slightly more bronzed looking example comes in its original blue velvet presentation case (loose lining) enclosed in white box.
1984 Sarajevo Winter Olympics Participation Medal: Made of bronze. 60 mm by 65 mm; 129 grams. Designed by Nebojsa Mitric. The front bears “Sarajevo 84" in stylized raised text within a circle above the Olympic rings and '84 Winter Games legend. The reverse is plain with a monogram of the designer. These smaller-sized participation medals were bestowed to athletes, while the larger versions were presented to dignitaries and officials. Both types have become increasingly coveted by Olympic collectors. Presents in EX condition (puncture on upper right) and comes with its original brown leather presentation case.
1984 Los Angeles/Sarajevo Polish Olympic Committee Medal: Made of bronze. 70 mm in diamater; 5-6 mm thick. Weighs 154 grams. Obverse has Olympic rings and the National Olympic Committee of Poland logo (winged creature atop a platform) with "Polski Komitet Olimpijski" (Polish Olympic Committee) around the perimeter. Reverse has "1984" at center with abstract relief image and "Igrzyska Olimpijskie Los Angeles | Sarajevo" (Olympic Games) around the perimeter. Comes in EX condition with its green presentation case. Very rare.
