Griffith Stadium in Washington DC played host to the Washington Senators from 1911 to 1960 and the Washington Redskins for 24 seasons (1937-1960). The stadium was built in 1911 and named National Park but the name was changed to Griffith Stadium in 1920 for Senator owner Clark Griffith. In 1911 William Howard Taft began the tradition of presidents throwing out the ceremonial first pitch of the baseball season at Griffith Stadium. Every president of the United States from William Howard Taft to John F. Kennedy threw a ceremonial first pitch at least once at Griffith.

Presented is a single seat from old Griffith Stadium in Washington which stood proudly for more than 40 years. In vintage light blue paint with remnants of green underneath this free standing seat appears to be in excellent condition. Just imagine all the baseball highlights that were witnessed from this chair... Walter Johnson's fastballs and Mantle's 565 ft. home run just to name a few. Paint wear on the slats and along the metal rails does not hamper the overall beauty of this historical seat. Pulled from the stadium after the demolition in 1962 this chair has been well preserved ever since. Excellent condition.

Includes a Letter of Provenance from The Newport Sports Museum.
