Forbes Field was located in the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and played host to the Pittsburgh Pirates (MLB) and Steelers (NFL) as well as the University of Pittsburgh Panthers. The stadium was built in 1909 and was demolished in 1971 when construction of Three Rivers Stadium began. At the time it was the second oldest ballpark to Philadelphia's Shibe Park.

Important Dates:In 1909 Forbes Field's opening season the Pirates beat the Detroit Tigers in the World Series. It would be the only meeting of eventual Hall of Famers Honus Wagner and Ty Cobb.On August 5 1921 Forbes Field was the site of the first live radio broadcast of a Major League Baseball game in the United States. On May 25 1935 at Forbes Field Babe Ruth hit the last three home runs of his career as his Boston Braves lost to the Pirates 11-7. His last home run cleared the right field stands roofline making him the first player to ever do so.

Offered is a single grandstand chair once used at the famed Steel City ballpark. The chair is comprised of a three-panel wooden back rest and a wooden folding seat within a sturdy metal frame with armrests. A vintage coat of blue paint has worn severely in several areas most notably on the upper back slat and front seat slat. Rust is apparent on portions of the metallic elements however the seat is sturdy and retains a great vintage look.

Includes a Letter of Provenance from The Newport Sports Museum.
